Private investigation isn't one job — it's a toolkit. Surveillance, interviews, public-records work, digital forensics, witness location, asset tracing, and on-the-ground research all operate together to answer the questions our clients can't answer themselves. Valdes Investigation Group is Miami's oldest and largest full-service investigation agency, and our general investigations practice is the foundation everything else is built on.

Whether you're a spouse who suspects something is wrong, an attorney preparing for trial, a business owner concerned about a partner, or an insurance carrier reviewing a suspicious claim, we deploy licensed investigators with the right tools and the right disposition for the specific situation. Every case is staffed by an investigator chosen for the work — surveillance specialists for surveillance, forensic examiners for digital matters, former law enforcement for high-risk fieldwork.

We work statewide in Florida and maintain field capability across the United States and the Caribbean through our investigator network. Reports are written to legal standards, photo and video evidence is timestamped and chain-of-custody documented, and our investigators are available to testify when cases proceed to trial.

What's Included

A complete investigation toolkit under one license.

Our general private investigation engagements draw from any combination of the following capabilities, scoped to your specific case.

Mobile & Static Surveillance

Covert observation by trained investigators using multiple vehicles, long-lens photography, and 4K video — documenting movements, meetings, and patterns of life.

Background Investigations

Comprehensive background reports covering criminal history, civil litigation, employment verification, address history, business affiliations, and social media footprint.

Missing Persons & Skip Tracing

Locating individuals who have moved, gone off-grid, or actively concealed their whereabouts — debtors, biological family, witnesses, beneficiaries, or estranged relatives.

Infidelity & Domestic Inquiries

Discreet documentation of suspected infidelity, cohabitation for alimony review, or parental fitness concerns — handled with the sensitivity these situations require.

Corporate & Due Diligence

Pre-employment, pre-investment, and partnership vetting. Reputation checks, hidden liabilities, undisclosed business interests, and verification of credentials.

Witness Location & Interviews

Tracking down witnesses for case preparation, conducting recorded statements, and producing affidavit-ready interview reports for litigation support.

Our Process

How we work.

A clear four-stage process from intake through final report. Updates throughout — no black-box investigations.

Step 01
Intake & Scope

A confidential consultation establishes what you need answered, what's at stake, and what evidence already exists. We give you an honest read on what's achievable and quote firm pricing — no open-ended retainers.

Step 02
Investigator Assignment

We assign investigators chosen for the case — surveillance specialists for surveillance, forensic examiners for digital matters, multilingual investigators where culture or language matters. Most cases launch within 48 hours.

Step 03
Field & Records Work

Surveillance is run, records are pulled, witnesses are interviewed, and evidence is collected with documented chain of custody. You receive regular updates throughout — not just a final report.

Step 04
Report & Testimony

Final reports include written findings, dated photo and video evidence, source documentation, and investigator declarations. Our investigators are available to testify if the case proceeds to court.

Why Valdes

Forty-five years of court-tested investigation work.

Investigation results only matter if they survive scrutiny. Ours have — across thousands of cases, in courtrooms, depositions, and boardrooms.

Frequently Asked

Answers to common questions.

How much does a private investigator cost in Miami?
Our pricing depends on the type of investigation, the urgency, and the resources required. Surveillance is typically billed at an hourly rate with a defined case minimum; background reports and records-based investigations are flat-fee. After an initial consultation we provide firm written pricing for the scope — we do not run open-ended retainers. Most general investigation engagements range from $1,500 to $8,000, with complex multi-week surveillance or international cases priced separately.
Is hiring a private investigator legal in Florida?
Yes. Florida law permits private investigation work by licensed agencies and licensed individual investigators. Valdes Investigation Group operates under Florida Agency License A1700169, and every investigator we field holds a current Class C investigator license issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. We do not perform any activity that is restricted to law enforcement, and we do not violate wiretapping, trespass, or stalking statutes — work performed outside the law is not admissible and is not worth the risk to you or to us.
Will my case be confidential?
Yes. We hold every case in strict confidence. We do not discuss client identities, case details, or outcomes with anyone outside the engagement, and our investigators sign confidentiality agreements that extend beyond the close of the case. When attorneys engage us, we operate under attorney-client privilege and work product protection. Even our intake process is structured to protect you — initial consultations can be held by phone, video, or at our Miami office, and we never identify clients in marketing or case studies without written consent.
Can the evidence you collect be used in court?
Yes — that is how every report and every piece of evidence we collect is prepared. Surveillance video and photographs include timestamps and GPS metadata. Investigator notes are contemporaneous. Reports are signed and dated, and our investigators are available for deposition and trial testimony. We have testified in Florida state and federal courts across thousands of cases. The standard we work to is admissibility from the first day of an engagement, not just the last.
How quickly can you start an investigation?
Most general investigation engagements start within 24 to 48 hours of executing the service agreement. Urgent matters — including domestic violence, child welfare concerns, or active asset dissipation — can be staffed same-day when our investigators are available. For surveillance, lead time is required to position investigators correctly without alerting the subject. For records-based investigations such as background reports, results are typically delivered within 3 to 7 business days.
Do you work outside of Miami?
Yes. Although our office is in Miami, we work statewide in Florida and maintain investigator coverage across the United States and the Caribbean through our network of licensed agencies. Out-of-state cases are coordinated from Miami with field investigators deployed locally — the client has one point of contact, one bill, and one report at the end.
Will the subject know they're being investigated?
No. Surveillance is conducted covertly using multiple vehicles, varied team members, long-lens equipment, and counter-detection techniques. We have run thousands of surveillance hours in Miami and across Florida and have not had a subject identify us in the course of an investigation. Records-based work leaves no trace at all — public records pulls, database searches, and social media reviews are invisible to the subject.
What if the investigation doesn't find what I'm looking for?
We tell you that. An honest negative result is more valuable than a forced positive — if surveillance shows no infidelity, if a background check turns up clean, or if a missing person cannot be located despite full effort, that is the report you receive. We will not manufacture findings to justify our fees. Many clients hire us specifically because we will give them a clean answer either way.
